School Bus Driver Job Description


Duration of Position: December 19-30, 2016 (closed weekends & December 26 & 27)
Rate: $16.00 per hour
Direct Reports to: Engaged Outreach Coordinator
Indirect Reports to: KidSafe Manager of Programming


The temporary School Bus Driver will be responsible for organizing, picking up and dropping off children between their homes and KidSafe program sites in Vancouver on the dates indicated in the contract. There will also be additional requests to drive for occasional field trips.


Bus Driver Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct a pre-trip inspection of the vehicle on collection

  • Ensure the bus is in working order, safely parked and clean

  • Organize a bus route to pick up children from home and deliver them to program sites by 8:30am during the session times

  • Collect children at the end of the session (time as advised by Site coordinators) and drop children off at their homes

  • Return the vehicle in a similar condition from when it was collected with the same amount of fuel and run a post-trip inspection

  • To work occasionally for other KidSafe programs to pick up and deliver staff and students on field trips.  Dates to be advised.

  • To report any problems immediately to the KidSafe

  • Protect and ensure the proper care and treatment of the vehicle

  • Submit a timesheet of the hours worked on a bi-weekly basis.


General Responsibilities

  • Comply with the field studies practices and procedures laid out by KidSafe and its partner the Vancouver School Board

  • Treat each child with respect and care and be a positive role model

  • Work with all other staff in a positive, professional, and cooperative manner

  • Have sound judgment and able to ensure the safety of children


Job requirements

  • Candidates will have an understanding of the KidSafe vision and mission - to provide new active and educational opportunities to some of Vancouver’s most vulnerable children and youth while providing them with a safe environment to explore self-esteem and confidence, make new friends and of course have fun

  • Hold an existing Class 2 or unrestricted Class 4 license

  • Clean driving record

  • Have an up-to-date Criminal Record check
