Position Purpose:


The Bartender is responsible for the superior and timely guest service and beverage quality in the AMS liquor venues. They remain focused and levelheaded even under pressure applying their superior guest service skills. The ideal candidate has an outgoing, friendly personality and enjoys dealing with people while being hands on. They must possess a solid understanding of wine, spirits, and beer and be able to communicate that knowledge to others.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent guest service according to AMS standards and procedures
  • Ensuring safe liquor service according to legal requirements and AMS standards, recipes and procedures
  • Achieving sales goals through ongoing up selling, providing recommendations to guests and ensuring timely service according to AMS standards and guidelines, including accurately charging guests for all product at the prices set by the AMS
  • Handling cash transactions and staying focused and levelheaded even under pressure applying proper accounting principles to balance the till at the end of the shift
  • Increase revenues through proper upselling, suggestive selling, product knowledge, and promoting upcoming events and specials directly to patrons
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, ensuring all work areas and customer areas are organized, clean, and well-stocked
  • Demonstrating excellent grooming and uniform standards according to AMS procedures
  • Ensuring 100% compliance with all legal requirements (including WorkSafe & BC Health) and AMS policies and procedures
  • Checking identification documents to ensure legal service of alcohol
  • Read and clearly understand all required AMS communications including training manuals, emails, and safety/emergency procedures and maintain confidentiality of documents
  • Immediately report any potential safety issue (including damage to property or injuries) to management, supervisors, or security
  • Be alert for any security concerns regarding product or the property and report them immediately to manager
  • Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year bartending in a high volume bar environment
  • Solid knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits and the ability to communicate that knowledge is required
  • POS experience required (preferably Micros)
  • Serving-It-Right Certification required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally & written
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment remaining calm under pressure
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Ability to do shift work (daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays)
  • Food Safe Level 1 or higher an asset
