Position title: Human Resources Coordinator

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Senior Manager, Human Resources

Employee status: Permanent, full-time

Hours per week: 37.5


Position Purpose

This position will support the HR department on various HR activities, administration and programs including new hire orientation, onboarding, job fairs, and other special projects. This role takes a ‘customer service’ approach to ensure continued Human Resources support to all departments and employees of the AMS. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support for the full cycle recruitment process, including job postings, attending job fairs, candidate screening, interviews, reference checks, onboarding new employees and assisting hiring managers as/when needed
  • Provides support on HR related policies and procedures including interviewing techniques, performance management, and other applicable regulations or requirements to employees and management
  • Develops and maintains administrative systems to support employee recruitment, performance planning and development activities with a high degree of accuracy
  • Plans and coordinates new employee orientations ensuring that all legal requirements are met
  • Conducts HR files audits to ensure information is properly updated and catalogued
  • Reviews employee files, handbooks, and policy and procedures manuals to ensure they are updated
  • Leads or participates in special projects assigned by the Senior HR Manager on an ongoing basis
  • Tracks HR metrics and create reports for management as required
  • Coordinates events and activities to support staff engagement
  • Prepares research and documentation in preparation for Collective Bargaining
  • Attends Bargaining strategy sessions (prepare notes and participate), as required
  • Attends council and committee meetings as required
  • Participates in committees and oversees HR initiatives as required
  • Working with the AMS mission statement and values to support a successful department
  • Other duties as required     

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in Human Resource Management or equivalent education is required
  • 1-3 years of strong administrative experience in a busy office work environment is required
  • 1-2 years hands on practical experience in HR including full cycle recruitment and training is required
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and professionalism is required
  • Ability to react quickly and adapt to a changing work environment is required
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required
  • Experience recruiting in a hospitality, food industry or seasonal work environment is an asset
  • Experience working with students or on an academic campus is an asset
  • Understanding of basic employment legislation is an asset
