Location: Edmonton Salary: $33.18 - $47.94 per hour depending on education and experience

The Mental Health Therapist will utilize a broad range of therapeutic skills including individual, group and family therapy and will work closely within the framework of a multidisciplinary clinical team providing mental health assessment and treatment to school aged children, adolescents and their families.  The therapist works closely with other CASA staff and physicians to deliver high quality psychosocial interventions in individual and group settings. The therapist functions as a team member and collaborates with outside agencies and programs to deliver care in a family centered manner.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide clinical services to a caseload of children and families 
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned children, adolescents and families. 
  • Formulate a diagnosis as appropriate using the DSM IV or any other diagnostic tool currently in general use in the program. 
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches including family therapy, play therapy, filial therapy and other individual and group psycho therapies. 
  • Conduct psycho-educational support and treatment groups for children and parents. 
  • Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (especially education, social services, justice and health). 
  • Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate. 
  • Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment and treatment case review, and consultation. 
  • Follow agency policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.


  • Psychologists, Masters prepared Social Workers, Registered Nurses/Psychiatric Nurses and Occupational Therapists registered and in good standing with their professional college
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory setting/program that provided psychosocial intervention
  • Experience assessing and treating issues related to childhood trauma and maltreatment
  • A commitment to best practice and knowledge of evidence informed mental health services
  • An ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.  
  • Experience working with diverse cultures.
