To provide a positive living environment for all men’s hostel clients, promoting independence and self-help and ensuring that client’s day-to-day basic needs are being met.
Perform other position related duties as required.
Completion of Post-Secondary education in the field of human and or social services is preferred; an alternative combination of education and related experience will be considered
Experience working with a diverse population, including mental health and addictions
Knowledge and sensitivity to the social and economic barriers and issues unique to men in the shelter system
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions
Knowledgeable of homeless issues with sensitivity to housing barriers for high-risk population and knowledge and ability to link with community agencies that provide support to this population
Crisis intervention skills is an asset
Good oral and written communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Self-motivated and disciplined
Working knowledge and experience particular Microsoft Office Word, Excel and database system
Understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army
First Aid/ CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or willingness to obtain certifications
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Normal Hours of Work: 16hours per week – Saturday & Sunday – 12am to 8am
