North Shore ConneXions Society is currently recruiting for Casual on Call Community Living Counsellors to work within the Recreation and Education programs at ConneXions. This position requires all applicants to have a solid skill set working within community inclusion and in supporting individuals to make meaningful choices and decisions.
We are recruiting professionals who are available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and on Saturday and Sunday.
Applicants to this position must have demonstrated experience working as part of a motivated team acting as a positive role model. You must have the knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the field of Community Living, Key Worker experience with the awareness of all administrative responsibilities, experience working with people with challenging/aggressive behaviours, experience with augmentative communication techniques and in working with seniors.
Your role as a Community Living Counsellor is an important one and is to:
~ support individuals to become self-sufficient in all areas of daily living
~ work as a positive role model, to coach and instruct individuals
~ support meaningful inclusion and participation into the community
~ perform general administration duties - report writing, record keeping, and accountability of funds
Applicants must have:
~ experience working with people with developmental disabilities and developmental delays
~ knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the field of Community Living
~ Key Worker experience
~ experience / formal training in augmentative communication
~ dietary training
~ experience with challenging behaviours
~ excellent written and verbal communication
~ demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
~ ability to function efficiently under pressure and manage multiple concurrent demands
All applicants to ConneXions must have:
~ a valid Class 5 (minimum) BCDL – a Class 4 unrestricted is required within the probationary period
~ a valid first aid certificate with CPR/AED training
~ a negative Tuberculosis screening test
~ a clear Drivers Abstract
