Food Policy Specialist, Canada

Terms of Employment: Full-Time
Reports to: Global Manager of Education
Position Location: Canada
Position Objective: To encourage and assist institutional foodservice providers, such as hospitals, schools, government offices, and corporations, in adding more plant-based foods to their menus, and to encourage and assist grocery chains in adding more plant-based foods to their product selections

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work directly with schools, hospitals, governmental bodies, and corporations to influence a shift in their menus to include more plant-based options
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with key institutions and corporations
  • Create a high-impact meat reduction campaign that is recognized throughout Canada
  • Draft and coordinate support materials related to the meat reduction campaign
  • Regularly communicate with the global manager of education and the vice president for Canada to share best practices and align on goals, strategy, and progress
  • Keep informed of local and national issues, research, and advocacy related to plant-based eating and plant-based options
  • Regularly communicate with vegetarian and vegan research and advocacy organizations to bring more plant-based meat, egg, and dairy products into grocery chains
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other organizations in Canada doing similar work
  • Work to publicize the success when institutions or grocers add more plant-based options to their menus or product selections

Position Requirements:  

  • Thorough knowledge of plant-based eating issues and Mercy For Animals’ campaigns
  • Proven exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate persuasively
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English
  • Preferred ability to read, write, and speak Quebecois
  • Support of MFA’s philosophy and ability to professionally advocate MFA’s positions
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
