POSITION: New Member Campaign: Outreach Officer - Victoria, B.C.

 

OVERVIEW: Working as part of TLC’s Outreach Team as a permanent part time employee, Outreach Officers play a key role in raising awareness about TLC’s projects and programs as well as helping to grow TLC’s membership base within the community.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Representing The Land Conservancy at TLC sites, local events, and festivals as well as other special events within the community.

• Presenting information about TLC to the public both through conversation and presentations to small groups and helping visitors enjoy their tours of TLC sites.

• Work cooperatively and independently and under the supervision and direction of TLC’s New Member Campaign Coordinator • Build TLC membership and capacity on a door-to-door basis by recruiting new members, by renewing existing memberships, and by soliciting donations;

• Distribute TLC literature and respond effectively to public queries, while representing TLC with the highest integrity;

• Process financial transactions responsibly, respect canvassing safety procedures, and manage time in conformity with drop-off and pick-up schedules and maps.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Effective understanding of TLC’s history, mandate, leadership, and key projects;

• Excellent ability to communicate verbally with the public and TLC members;

• Process detailed, sensitive information in an accurate and methodical manner;

• Work independently in the context of a supportive team campaign effort;

• Follow directions, while also performing thoughtful, periodic self-evaluations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High energy, enthusiasm, confidence, and passion.

• Education: high school diploma and/or post-secondary education not required but definitely an asset; preference will be given to individuals trained in or receiving training in sales, marketing, environmental studies, communications, fundraising, development, the social sciences, or the humanities/liberal arts;

• Previous paid or volunteer experience with a charitable and/or non-profit organization, or experience working in a customer service environment, an asset.

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and OFA Level 1 First Aid considered an asset.

 

CURRENT TEAM:

• We are seeking people that are positive, persuasive and passionate about what TLC does for BC. Currently, our team consists of 10 university students and working professionals with a wide range of experience. Members of our current team have or are working toward bachelors or masters in environmental studies, science, political science, sociology, business, engineering or education. We try and promote positive learning and believe that everyone can bring something new to the group.

 

JOB FORMAT: We are looking to hire people for weekday and weekend shifts working as street canvasser, door-to-door canvassers and working at farmers markets. You must be legally able to work in Canada. You will be paid an hourly wage of $12/ hour.
