SURREY TRANSITION HOUSE WORKER

EVERGREEN TRANSITION HOUSE

Temporary Full-time Day Shift Position

(Tues – Sat) - 35 hours/week

This position requires union membership.  Compensation is in accordance with Appendix A of the BCGEU Collective Agreement

 

Options Community Services Society requires a temporary Transition House Women’s Support Worker to work at Evergreen Transition House to cover a maternity leave.  In order to best meet the needs of the transition house resident, this position is open to female applicants only.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in a related field and/or relevant training and experience
  • Possess an excellent understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence against women and children and the intergenerational impact of abuse
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, e.g., cultural, religious, age, class, sexual orientation.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal record search and First Aid certification are requirements of this position
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Food Safe Certificate an asset

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Verbal and written fluency in Punjabi and/or Hindi is a requirement for this position
  • Ability to organize work and carry out the duties of the position independently and within a team concept
    • Ability to assess and prioritize client needs
    • Ability to manage crisis or emergency situations
    • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
    • Ability to provide non-judgmental, positive, respectful support

* An eligibility list will be maintained for up to 6 months
