Sandra Thomson is an independant development consultant living in Nanaimo, B.C. She has worked in the performing arts industry for over thirty-five years specializing in marketing, facility development, organizational development and fundraising.
She was the Development Officer for the Vancouver East Cultural Centre from 1988-1990, where she expanded the annual giving, foundations and capital gifts campaigns. She moved to Nanaimo in August 1990 to become the Development Officer for a non-profit society that was formed by the City of Nanaimo to raise $13.1 million to build an eight hundred seat theatre on the waterfront in downtown Nanaimo.
Sandra was responsible for creating and implementing the strategic plan to accomplish this major community development project. During the eight-year development phase, grants and donations totaling $13.1 million were secured for the building fund, $1.2 million was raised for operations and gifts in kind were secured with a value of almost $500,000. The Port Theatre opened in September 1998, on time and on budget. . She served on the board of CAPACOA, the Canadian Arts Presenters Association from 2003-09 including two years as President. She also recently served as the volunteer Treasurer with Made In BC Dance on Tour Society and was President of the Mount Benson Seniors Housing Society.
Sandra has been an active volunteer for organizations advocating women's rights, community development, cultural diversity, small business and health issues. She continues to offer workshops for non-profit organizations throughout B.C. Sandra is available as a workshop leader in the areas of organizational assessment, board development, strategic planning, volunteer management and fundraising.
