Founded in 1998, Liberty Quest Enterprises Inc. was formed to address the gap in consulting services to the charitable sector in southwest British Columbia. Its founder understood the need for a firm that reflected the local culture and responded creatively and quickly to the sector's demands, rather than relying on large and overly bureaucratic structures.
Liberty Quest Enterprises is dedicated to assisting not-for-profit organisations in maximising their financial and human resources. It offers organisational development and management; marketing and communications strategies; volunteer recruitment, orientation and training; and expertise and guidance during the lifetime of its clients' fundraising programs, from inception to maturity and beyond.
Liberty Quest believes that donors and volunteers give their money and time to better the human condition, and that when they do give, it is because they understand the impact of their gift in human terms.
The responsibility of every team member is to ensure that volunteers and donors have that understanding, that their gifts are accepted and stewarded in an ethical and responsible manner and that client organisations acquire the skills to continue building their financial and human resources.
Vivian Smith, CFRE, has over 25 years of experience working with community organisations to better the human condition and build healthy communities. Vivian's commitment to providing highly effective, ethical and responsible services to the not-for-profit sector has positioned her as one the most successful consultants working in western Canada today. Her collaborative, innovative and joyful approach to philanthropy has resulted in a winning track record in support of a wide range of charitable causes, including education, youth, sports, social services, health care and arts and culture.
As the principal of her firm, Liberty Quest Enterprises, Vivian provides her clients with:
• not-for-profit organisational management and capacity-building,
• training and facilitation for boards, volunteers and staff,
• fund development services and
• strategic planning.
Vivian's strength as a fundraiser stems from her commitment to life-long learning, training and mentorship. In 2004, she was invited to attend the Faculty Training Academy for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and is certified to instruct at AFP training and educational sessions. In addition, she just recently took on the role of master trainer at the Academy, training new instructors for the profession.
In 2005, she designed and launched a pilot project for a mentorship program within the Vancouver Chapter of AFP. The pilot project was a great success, and was formally adopted by the Board of AFP Vancouver in 2006 as a member benefit.
She has had her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation since 1998, and is presently president-elect of AFP Vancouver's Board of Directors. Vivian was also recently a lead instructor for the Fundraising Management Program at the BC Institute of Technology, one of the top certification programs in the field.
As a dedicated volunteer herself, Vivian has extensive experience working with community organisations, volunteers and government, and brings a deep understanding of volunteerism and the importance of relationship-building to all successful fundraising initiatives, including major gift programs and capital campaigns. She has managed campaigns of all sizes, from a grassroots organisation raising $250,000 to a post-secondary institution raising $26 million.
She was the first woman president for her Rotary Club in 2007/08, and is a volunteer with the Leadership Development Program, a board development initiative of Volunteer Vancouver providing mentorship and training to senior staff and board members of not-for-profit organisations throughout Metro Vancouver.
In addition, Vivian facilitates strategic planning workshops for many organisations, offers major gifts solicitation training to staff and volunteers and has been invited to present at numerous conferences and workshops throughout Canada and the United States.
