The Vancouver Society of Children’s Centres (VSOCC) is a non-profit community based organization which has developed and delivered a range of licensed child care services and family resource programs since 1995. Its services are delivered from 14 state-of-the-art facilities in Downtown Vancouver. VSOCC is the largest single-purpose organization providing non-profit child care in British Columbia and is one of the largest providers in infant and toddler care in Western Canada. VSOCC currently serves more than 1,800 children each year from 3 months old to school age.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VSOCC has overall responsibility for the general management of the business, activities and other affairs of VSOCC, in accordance with the strategies, plans and policies approved by the Board of Directors. The CEO leads the organization through the development and implementation of strategic initiatives; directs, coaches and nurtures the team; ensures the organization’s finances are in order; and oversees the operations of all existing programs to the high quality standards for which VSOCC has become known. The incumbent will also oversee a significant expansion both of new centres and of innovative programs in the coming years.
The CEO is the primary spokesperson for the organization and will actively maintain and build upon relationships with VSOCC’s stakeholders in order to seize opportunities and leverage each other’s strengths. Stakeholders include families and children, staff, community partners, government, and business organizations. Working with the Board of Directors, the CEO will enable the Board to fulfill all required governance functions, and will develop an open and communicative relationship.
The ideal candidate is an extraordinary leader who has been responsible for overseeing a large, complex and multi-site organization operating in partnership with the community, with close relationships with government partners as well as with a myriad of other external stakeholders. The CEO will be recognized as a credible, influential and reliable professional who can be trusted, as well as someone who is motivated to build and expand on an already successful organization. He or she has worked closely with Boards of Directors to guide strategy development and set priorities.
The selected candidate must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in a publicly visible, autonomous and caring workplace while overseeing a complex portfolio and managing the work of a large team. Superior leadership, interpersonal and communication skills and a personal values alignment with the organization are hallmarks of a suitable candidate. In addition he/she is a genuine people-person who knows how to build great relationships, uncover new ideas, and inspire people to excel.
