Grizzly Bear Foundation
Region: Vancouver & Lower Mainland Type: Full time
Location: Vancouver Salary: Fully competitive

The Grizzly Bear Foundation (grizzlybearfoundation.com) is a newly-formed charitable organization dedicated to the welfare of grizzly bears, supporting their conservation and preservation. Its initial Board comprises a strong and committed group of well-known individuals, led by founding chairman Michael Audain, the highly respected Vancouver home builder and philanthropist. It will be Vancouver-based and its planned activities can be summarized as Research, Education, and Conservation.

In the area of Research, it will directly retain qualified researchers to conduct specific projects, and will also make grants to support projects conducted by others. Projects must demonstrate significant positive effects for grizzly bears and their results will be shared widely with government agencies and the public.

In the area of Education, it will distribute information to a wide range of audiences using many different media, and will encourage communication and collaboration amongst researchers and ensure that information is shared with the public.

In the area of Conservation, it will work with local communities in developing and implementing population augmentation programs, and will support land use planning processes that help to conserve the grizzly bear species.

The Grizzly Bear Foundation is now at the point of hiring its first Director, who will report to the Board and provide leadership to all aspects of its operations, shaping and implementing its objectives, program development, fundraising, financial management, and public relations.

We are seeking a talented individual who has genuine interest in the wellbeing of grizzly bears, has experience with non-profit organizations, and ideally has had exposure to conservation-related research and programs. We need someone with an entrepreneurial and positive attitude, a hands-on approach, and excellent communication skills, who can be a very effective public face of the organization.

This is an amazing opportunity to be in at the front end of building an organization that will undoubtedly become a major contributor to the conservation of the grizzly bear species in the face of its significant challenges.
