Our client, Variety - The Children’s Charity, is currently seeking a seasoned senior executive and proven fundraiser to lead the organization as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The CEO is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set in collaboration with the Board of Directors. This role, along with the Board Chair, will act as the spokesperson for the organization and will be a catalyst for raising funds and expanding and enhancing donor relations. The CEO will identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external activities that affect the organization and will provide comprehensive, regular reports, including full accountability for revenues and expenditures. The CEO will communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by Variety.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
  • Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, Board and Funders
  • Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction identified in the 3 year strategic plan
  • In collaboration with the Board, (Fundraising Committee) develop an annual slate of fundraising events
  • Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and services in conjunction with the Board (Programming Committee)
  • Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization with an eye to maintaining and improving quality
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures, and practices
  • Recruit, interview, and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organization's mission
  • Work with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare comprehensive annual budgets
  • Work with the Board to secure adequate funding
  • Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising plans, and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization
  • Administer funds according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization
  • Develop and implement a marketing and communications plan which incorporates the brand message and goals and objectives that work towards elevating the profile and raising funds
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve Variety’s goals

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Related University degree in management, business administration, public administration, or health care management
  • 10 or more years of progressive management experience in a not for profit organization or related experience
  • Proven track record in cultivating and maintaining relationships
  • Experience in human resource, financial, and project management
  • Must possess a valid MB Driver’s License
  • CFRE designation would be an asset

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • The ability to supervise and motivate volunteers and staff
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work cooperatively and independently
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite products
