WE seeks an Associate Director, Major Gifts. This individual will work with the Director to develop strategy, oversee the implementation of strategy, and be responsible for operations of the department, ultimately accountable to achieving donation targets for the major gift category.  As a natural relationship builder, this role manages both client relationships, one Manager and possibly two other team members within the department, ultimately reporting to the Director of Major Gifts.
The success of WE Charity’s Major Gift team is measured (at both the departmental and organizational level) by:

  • the number of families engaged in the WE Movement (via trips, fundraising, camps, etc.),
  • the quality of relationships,
  • the strength of programming to build pipeline, and
  • achieving year end targets for Major Gifts.

The WE Charity Major Gifts team seeks a strong leader who will continually strengthen these objectives and relationships.
This individual must be passionate and committed to the core beliefs of the organization—the WE.org Philosophy.
The position is based out of WE Charity’s office in Toronto (233 Carlton Street).
Your Impacts:

  • Share director vision and drive activities to reach department and organizational goals.
  • Drive special executive level projects to develop pipeline, drive 360 engagement, and honor stakeholders
  • Proactively manage changes in strategy, devise contingency plans and communicate these to the appropriate parties.
  • Clearly and effectively delegate to manager.
  • Monitor progress, milestones and priorities; track action items; identify process improvements.
  • Set and continually manage expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a member of the senior-management team within the Major Gift department, as well as within the broader organization as a whole. Uphold highest level of professionalism.
  • Continuously liaise with other department Associate Directors and Directors to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Find personal satisfaction in activities and responsibilities available in the job; enjoying the essence of sales work, embracing and cultivating the WE culture.

Relationship Management: 50%

  • Receive and respond to new leads with the aim of securing major gifts
  • Proactively identify prospective donors, carry out background research, and devise an appropriate engagement plan
  • Attend and represent the organization at fundraising and networking events with the aim of identifying and building relationships with prospective donor stakeholders

Stewardship and Retention

  • Steward the engagement of major donors, ensuring a compelling stakeholder experience and ongoing involvement with WE programming, both domestically and internationally
  • Develop strategic engagement pathways to ensure the successful retention of each donor, including deepened commitment where possible via engagement across WE platforms
  • Fulfill our commitments to stakeholders, seeing that all aspects are carried out, including preparing donor updates and reports
  • Provide support to third-party events and fundraisers hosted by stakeholders, including in-person attendance and public speaking
  • Ensure client satisfaction through responsiveness to inquiries, with prompt and effective problem-solving

Team Management: 25%

  • Lead check-ins with Manager at the beginning of the week to review previous week performance, set goals, client targets, and action items for the week.
  • Ensure Manager is seeking the highest level of quality and accuracy of work, particularly for external stakeholders
  • Provide direction, leadership, and coordination for a wide-range of projects.
  • Develop internal department specific training program.
  • Continuously liaise with other departments in order to move departmental deliverables forward, specifically with the Donor Engagement team, Adult & Family Trips team, VIP Youth Engagement team, and Executive team
  • Ensure positive team culture is cultivated regularly.

Operations and Reporting: 15%

  • Develop, implement and monitor all processes, quality and internal controls necessary to achieve sales targets
  • Create and hold team accountable to SOPs to ensure excellent client experience
  • Research and establish new systems and/or processes to create efficiency and quality in the department
  • Act as an escalation point for client issue resolution
  • Report progress and issues on the above to Director
  • Create and analyze sales reports to be able to recommend strategic projects to achieve those goals
  • Supervise the team strategy for WE Day
  • Drive research to better understand the customer, apply learnings & share with relevant teams
  • Implement knowledge and research on customer to get actionable results

Financial Monitoring & Analysis: 10%

  • Oversee all accounts receivable processes. Ensure systems are built to capture data for analysis and that all accounting needs are met.
  • Develop procedures to ensure quality of financial tracking.
  • Report on a weekly basis the current status of financials for the department.
  • Ensure we meet highest ethical standards at all times.

What you bring:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor degree or Master’s degree in a related field
  • Proven ability to problem solve and multi-task during high-stress situations
  • Sound judgment, decision-making and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, highly organized, and demonstrated professionalism
  • Previous experience with high-end donors or stakeholders
  • Calm and confident demeanor, strong ability to develop rapport with families via phone, email, and in person
  • Personal values that match WE core values
  • Experience working with basic word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel) and CRM systems (Salesforce).
  • Has valid driver’s license
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
