Program Delivery

  • Provide employment program intake and assessments at specific times during the week
  • Describe the program to participants, including hours of operation and terms and conditions of the program
  • Assess with participants their employment and education background, health needs and employment aspirations
  • Inform individuals of the support services Bissell Centre offers (including food, clothing, housing and family or adult supports) and/or provide appropriate referrals
  • Ensure required forms for the program are signed by participants
  • Work collaboratively with participants to set goals, develop a service plan and provide follow-up on achievement of established goals
  • Provide crisis intervention support to individuals
  • Provide participants the use of newspapers daily and access to a phone/fax for employment related business
  • Take phone messages for participants from employers and post them on the message board
  • Maintain a job board of any part-time and full-time job opportunities provided by employers
  • Provide job skill development programming in collaboration with the Employment Training Facilitators, e.g. Resume Development, Computer/Internet Access, and Job Search Training
  • Perform morning Casual Labor duties; including dispatch, secondary dispatch, the call back office and the monitoring of participants
  • Market Bissell Centre’s employment services to potential employers, participants and community agencies
  • Maintain employer and worker relationships through follow-up phone calls and job site visits
  • Access resources for donations of safety equipment and work clothing and distribute to program participants as required
  • Carry out an intake shift once every two weeks
  • Provide lunch coverage once a week in the Drop-In
  • Support Skill Enhancement work including; Job Club, Jobs First , Pre-Employment Programs

 

Financial

  • Oversee bus ticket distribution
  • Maintain accurate petty cash, mileage and expense logs for reimbursement

General and Administrative

  • Maintain accurate written caseload notes, computer records and program information including outcomes and exit criteria
  • Maintain records and data on follow-up interviews, job site visits, agency referrals (within and outside of Bissell Centre) and donations
  • Provide program information and statistics as required
  • Participate in probationary evaluations and annual performance reviews
  • Attend scheduled staff and supervision meetings
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a related area
  • Minimum of one year related employment experience
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core
  • An Alberta Class 5 license may be required

 

Conditions of work

  • Some early morning, occasional evening and weekend work required
  • The operation of personal vehicle may be required
