POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Neighbour Centre Supervisor works to create a highly relational, inspiring team environment with a culture of open communication for staff and volunteers which is committed to seeing that the mission of The Mustard Seed is actively pursued within The Neighbour Centre. Fulfilling the mandate to be a life-giving community where Community Participants, Staff and Volunteers work together to realize their full potential.

The individual will be responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis. The successful candidate will have experience in developing and supporting both staff and volunteers as well as a strong understanding of the unique needs of a volunteer - based, non - profit humanitarian organization. The supervisor will assist community participants in accessing resources, while nurturing hope, health, and transformation in a safe and welcoming environment.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfill the mission of The Mustard Seed’s Ministry and maintain a high level of professionalism, respect and gratitude with all staff, donors, volunteers, community participants and visitors
  • Work closely with Basic Services Manager to generate goals, schedule, reports and budget
  • Ensure the healthy maintenance and development of inter - departmental relationships at The Mustard Seed
  • Build trusting relationships by acting with integrity, courtesy and responsibility, even in the face of stress or demanding workplace conditions
  • Provide leadership for volunteers, staff and community during assigned front - line shifts
  • Create an environment oriented to open communication, creative thinking and cohesive team effort. Motivate and inspire team members to maintain focus and on track and intervene when necessary, to aid in resolving issues

OTHER DUTIES

  • Ensure a safe and welcoming atmosphere; provide a strong foundation for the community by upholding boundaries and rules; and deal with aggression/conflict/disrespectful behaviour in appropriate ways, seeking restorative justice.
  • Professional and timely communication (phone, email, log book, in person meetings, etc.)
  • Manage an effective balance of office work and relational work
  • Facilitate the transportation of supplies (clothing, food, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the centre
  • Attend all relevant staff meetings, training and participate in planning sessions as scheduled
  • Prepare a monthly report to the Basic Services Manager (or designate) to include statistics, concerns, successes and program updates
  • Facilitate monthly support meetings
  • Certify proper procedures are in place regarding assigned service area, as outlined in related policy and procedure manuals
  • Meet regularly with Basic Services Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent
  • Proven track record in program delivery and team leadership
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to administer front - line activities
  • Possess strong initiative and good decision making skills
  • A collaborative team player
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Attentive to inner city poverty issues
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a volunteer-based organization is considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; high emotional intelligence; ability to build strong relationships

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Part administrative work and part relational work, evenings and some weekend availability required (40 hours per week)
  • Office space will be provided
  • Managing and de - escalating conflict is an essential and regular aspect of this role
  • Moderate physical effort and high mental labour (responding to tense situations, decision making, supporting people with complex struggles and who may have experienced trauma, problem solving)
  • Travel will be required, specifically to partnering organizations and between The Mustard Seed sites.
  • Driver’s Abstract, Vulnerable Sector Check and Employment Security Check is required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
