AAISA Sectorial Engagement Intern Position

 

Sectorial Engagement Intern Location: Calgary, AB, Canada

 

Time Commitment: Flexible, Approximately 37.5 hours per week, Summer internship, starting in May 

 

AAISA is an umbrella organization comprised of 36 immigrant and refugee settlement agencies from 8 communities. AAISA is committed to the production of evidence-based research and models for its member agencies that evaluate and address the needs and barriers of newcomer Canadians and the communities in which they live.

The Sectorial Engagement Intern will work within the Sectorial Engagement Unit. Broadly, this position will be responsible for providing sectorial engagement support including: gathering, analyzing and presenting information; organizing meetings and communications with the settlement sector and member agencies; and other project-based activities. Specific accountabilities include transcription, meeting logistics, and supporting event organization.

This position may appeal to students, returning to their studies in the fall, who are seeking to gain experience related to policy (settlement, integration and immigration), research, communication, and the non-profit sector.

Main duties:

  • Support sectorial engagement meeting communications and logistics
  • Work alongside other staff to support organizational initiatives
  • Provide support to Sectorial Engagement projects and activities, as necessary
  • Distribute and monitor communication with the sector and member agencies
  • Record and monitor results from engagement initiatives
  • Support dissemination of information to the community and broader public
  • Other projects as assigned by the Provincial Manager and/or designate

End of Internship Deliverables:

  • Consultation brief based on engagement initiatives

OR

  • The development of a stakeholder engagement strategy

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least two (2) years of course work in a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Social Work or Humanities. Must be registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year, and intend to return to school on a fulltime basis during the next academic year
  • Experience with project management and event planning
  • Strong knowledge of word processing
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of WordPress and website maintenance an asset
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the non-profit sector an asset
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration Refugee Protection Act
  • Priority will be given to members of a visible minority
