Reporting directly to the Director National Retail Services you will contribute towards our mission through administering the selection, purchase, pricing and distribution of Program materials, branded merchandise and outdoor gear. 

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

 

Purchasing

  • Purchase uniform, program material, uniform badges, honors and award materials, special request orders for National office, selected outdoor gear, special projects requirements ie: Jamborees
  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source appropriate suppliers for desired product and negotiate pricing and terms of contract
  • Attend trade shows, webinars, seminars to keep abreast of current trends

 

Product Development

  • Review existing product line for possible redesign and ensure products remain competitive
  • Source new product by attending trade shows, searching on internet and meeting with suppliers 

Inventory Control

  • Establish a strong relationship with third party warehouse regarding inventory management
  • Handle all discrepancies reported by warehouse by immediate contact to the supplier
  • Manage / conduct yearly inventory at third party warehouse in collaboration with warehouse manager
  • Analyze consumer buying patterns and predict future trends 

Customs/Brokerage/logistics

  • Possess a good understanding of Canadian custom regulations to avoid penalties imposed by the Canadian Boarder Services Agency
  • Manage NAFTA (Free Trade Agreement) certificates by obtaining updated and date correct certificates from each US supplier. Inspect for accuracy and provide to customs broker.

Communication

  • Communicate with, suppliers, manufacturers, council executive directors, national and regional staff at all levels
  • Liaising with Scout Shop managers and staff to ensure supply meets demand
  • Maintain liaison with National Program Department and Development department to ensure ensuring support of program/fundraising goals

Other Job Duties: 

  • Assemble and provide new product information for online catalogue and periodic mailings
  • Maintain and update official NRS Price list for Store Managers and staff 
  • Manage Return Authorization and defective product issues from stores for credit or adjustment through the Finance Department
  • Create purchase orders
  • Manage overstock held in the National warehouse.
  • Provide technical support to Scout Shop staff in the use of the third party warehouse online order website

Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Five to Seven Years of experience in the field procurement
  • Will have a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field. Scouting background or retail camping experience is an asset
  • Ability to effectively communicate, written and verbal, with multiple locations remotely
  • Strong analytical and negotiations skills and the ability to network and influence people
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risks
  • Will have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of Great Plains financial software is an asset
