Summer Camp Coordinator

 

North Shore ConneXions Society (ConneXions) provides a wide variety of services to children, youth and adults living with developmental disabilities and developmental delays.

 

ConneXions is currently looking to recruit two Summer Camp Coordinators to work within the Recreation and Education programs being offered between June and August.

 

These positions will assess and determine the recreational interest and needs of program participants and potential participants and provide direct and ongoing support and supervision to participants of the program. These positions require paper work, documentation and record keeping while maintaining accurate records and accountability of overnight camp budgets.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

- Leadership on designing, implementing and facilitating overnight and day camp components of programs

- Leadership on delivering multimedia components of the program

- Ensure that goals of the Summit’s programs and ConneXions are being met at all times

- Act as a positive role model and model appropriate social behaviour to participants at all times

- Provide families, caregivers, and residential staff with up to date information on the scheduled activities and events

- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants is being met at all times

- Maintain up to date information on participants of the program

- Report any significant / pertinent information regarding participants to the program manager and other team members

Attend staff meetings and training as required

Support and act as a positive leader within the program

  

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Basic computer skills

- Effective interpersonal communication skills

- Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others

- Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the field

- Proven ability to make sound, independent decisions

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

- Must be willing to undergo a criminal record check and submit a negative Tuberculosis screening test, medical approval and provide three professional references. ConneXions will cover the costs associated with the Criminal Record Check and Tuberculosis screening.

- $13/hour, with a schedule based on the needs of the program

- This position is dependent on funding approval

- Applicants must be returning to post-secondary full time in September

- These are full time contract positions (37.5 hours/week) running from June 12, 2017 – August 25, 2017

 

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES

 

We are looking for people who can facilitate, foster and encourage friendships and social opportunities / situations for participants, as well as teach and encourage the development and improvement of social skills and social behaviour. People who will support and act as a positive role model and model appropriate social behaviours to participants at all times.
