Pacific Autism Summer Internships


PAFN has been awarded the Canada Summer Job's Grant to support several of our summer initiatives. Please see summer opportunities below. All positions are 35 hours a week for a 12 week period. We are looking to fill these positions quickly - so please submit your application ASAP. 


Summer Program Intern (6 Positions): The Summer Programs Intern will be a key member of the Programs team delivering summer programming for the autism (and related disorder) community, located at our Richmond GoodLife Fitness Family Autism Hub. We are currently working with several organizations to develop a partnership and shared content delivery model. Our inaugural summer programming will focus on youth between 13 and 18, with a focus on vocational preparedness and career exploration. Intern responsibilities will include: 1) refine of program content and curriculum, 2) participant recruitment and registration support, 3) daily program set up, delivery and breakdown, 4) conduct program wrap-up activities, and 5) prepare final report and delivery metrics. This opportunity is great for individuals that are high energy, positive and able to be flexible and troubleshoot on the fly. Students in BI, Classroom Supports, or other teaching programs would be ideal. 


Research Interns (2 Positions): The Research Interns will help collect and organize information related to the development of the PAFN hub programs in the Richmond – City Centre constituency and surrounding areas. Responsibilities will include: 1) research and information collection of available services in the community, 2) development of community asset map, 3) development of service gap analysis, 4) undertake research on specific projects as directed by CEO, 5) prepare final report and community contacts document. This opportunity is suited for individuals that are highly organized, expert google searchers and familiar with basic research concepts. Individuals must be comfortable setting and attending meetings with community partners, preparing reports, and being creative in search and research methods. 


Volunteer Coordinator Intern (1 Position): The Volunteer Coordinator Internship will work with the leadership team of the Pacific Autism Family Network to develop a formal volunteer program to support organization activities. We currently have a growing volunteer community and have successfully run volunteer programs and events in the past, however we believe we are not fully utilizing the volunteer pool and are missing an opportunity to maximize volunteer impact. Volunteer participation has been identified as a key driver of our organizations ability to meet our mandate to create a centre of excellence in autism research, support and services. Intern responsibilities include: 1) update Volunteer Manual and create complimentary training, 2) identify and define volunteer opportunities within PAFN operations, and 3) identify and develop avenues for volunteer recruitment. This internship will require a student with a positive and innovative attitude, able to work well independently, and is results oriented. 


Web Development Intern (1 Position): The Web Development Intern will be responsible for developing and implementing a web strategy for PAFN Foundation. As the main avenue of information dissemination and a major part of our organization’s brand, the PAFN website is an essential part of meeting our mandate. Key responsibilities of the Web Development Intern include: 1) review of current strategy and resources, 2) consultation with stakeholders re: information needed, 3) development of web strategy, 4) website update/creation, and 5) final report, including development of user guide. Student will need a solid coding background and understanding of web development basics. 


Graphic Design Intern (2 Positions): The Graphic Design Interns will work to further PAFN’s brand identity through print materials as well as online branding and graphics. Key responsibilities of the Graphic Design Interns include: 1) review of current brand strategy and materials, 2) develop print materials to accompany programmatic needs, 3) provide necessary design input and resources for web development, 4) create ready to use templates for future PAFN materials. The Graphic Design Intern will be an artist with a keen eye for details, experience in graphic design theory and programs. 


To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program you must meet the following criteria: 

(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

(c) intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

(d) is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;

(e) is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

(f) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
