Nurse Manager of Care

Boulevard and Cloverley facilities

We are a forty year old charity in North Vancouver which provides care and housing for individuals in recovery and living with mental health illnesses.

We are seeking someone who passionately believes that every person with mental illness should be treated with dignity and respect. Can you lead a team of mental health staff to help them actively develop clients’ self-determination and recovery? Then we invite to apply for this key leadership position! 

 

Applying the principles of psycho-social rehabilitation, the successful applicant will be responsible, on a 24-hour basis, for the operations of two ten-bed licensed, 24 hour staffed facilities. This includes provision of care, supervision of staff, monitoring of budget, liaison with external resources, and maintenance of the facilities.  You will work closely with the Community Residential Program (CRP) at Vancouver Coastal Health and the Manager, Supportive Housing at Chesterfield Housing Society.

 

Education & Experience:

  • RPN or RN with minimum 5 years recent clinical experience providing care to adults with mental illness across the care spectrum with at least one year within a mental health residential care setting.  Evidence of progressive successful leadership and at least one year of direct supervisory experience required. Current CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of issues and evidence-based practices related to supporting adults living with mental illness across the life time.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of mental health/psychiatric clinical care including trauma informed care and supporting recovery from addictions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of psycho-social rehabilitation (PSR) principles and interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the on-going development of staff, including coaching and training mental health workers in the provision of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with staff, to provide direction to staff, to manage performance, and to effectively resolve human resource issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative working relationships with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders to develop, manage, and evaluate residential care services to meet our mission and goals.
  • Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies, standards and procedures related to provision of residential mental health care for clients and employees. Understanding of the current and emerging research and evaluation literature required.
  • Demonstrated skills in budget planning and monitoring of finance.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy to operate resident information systems, word processing, email, excel spreadsheets, payroll, & other related software.
  • Valid BC Drivers licence; local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Knowledge of medical conditions associated with aging an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in another language, particularly Farsi or Coast Salish an asset.
