Employment Generalist - French

Full Time 37.5 hours / week

Are you a dynamic individual eager to join a team whose mission is to foster community well-being and social justice through positive action and leadership? Abbotsford Community Services, a multi-service non-profit agency, delivering over 80 programs throughout the community/region, is seeking a Full Time Employment Generalist to work with the Employment Program.

Position Summary:

  • The Employment Generalist is flexible in their day to day tasks and willing to support the team in fill in various roles including needs assessment, resource advisor and facilitation
  • Staff may work out of the three AbbotsfordWORKS locations providing client service and support in both French and English languages

Professional Skills & Work Requirements

  • Work closely with Reception/Greeter and Resource Advisor with regard to new client intakes
  • Engage those we serve from a client-centered and strengths-based perspective, initiating collaborative relationships of mutual respect
  • Collaborate with clients to identify barriers to employment, clarify employment difficulties and refer to internal and/or external referrals based on client need and eligibility
  • Facilitate group workshops or individualized sessions in French or English languages
  • Provide clients with relevant information regarding community programs and services
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local labour market trends
  • Assist participants in the creation of effective self-marketing materials like resumes/cover letters 
  • Provide technical support to clients using the computer/Internet resources
  • Maintain up-to-date resources for local labour market trends, job posting websites, and postings
  • Support Clients to use computers and the internet for job search, respond to job vacancy postings using email or fax, use software programs for resume writing, access and use labour market information (LMI), register for self-serve job search workshops and determine employment insurance status through Service Canada, online or by phone, as needed
  • Proactively look for ways to improve the hospitality of the Resource Area, listening carefully for suggestions from Clients


  • Degree in education, social services, social work, or a combination of equivalent education, training, and experience
  • Hold Diploma in Employment Counselling or the Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) (or be working toward) designation
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluently in French and English
  • Understand and knowledge of current employment issues, life/employability skills, and the current labour market
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, professional attitude, and the ability to conduct workshops
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients who are not fluent in the English Language
  • Empathic, respectful and discrete; remains tactful and patient during stressful situations
  • Criminal record check

Language Skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken French is a requirement for this position
