This is an hourly, 30 hours per week, temporary summer job opportunity for students in Post-Secondary school. This position reports to the Office Manager of the Richmond office.

 

The term is from June 19, 2017 to August 25, 2017 (10 weeks).

 

This position is funded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Development under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement.  Applicant for this position must meet all the following eligibility requirements:
 *is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
 *was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
 *intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
 *is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;
 *is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
 *is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

*Foreign students are not eligible.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide administrative and reception coverage to the Richmond Office.

 

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Answer client phone lines and provide information about programs, services and resources to clients and callers when possible.
• Receive clients and visitors to the agency.  Ensure clients are welcomed and a welcoming environment is created and maintained. 
• Provide clients with intake information, connecting clients with the Family Services centralized intake where appropriate.  
• Complete telephone intake with appropriately identified clients. 
• Provide referral information to clients looking for other or additional services.
• Assist with the set up and maintenance and closing of client and program files. 
• Assist with client payments for fee for service programs. 
• Assist staff with the administrative aspects of program and client service. 
• Other duties, as directed by the Vice President, Program Managers and Office Manager.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Post-Secondary

 

Knowledge:
• Good working knowledge of word processing and data entry.
• Good command of the English language. Second language is an asset

 

Skills:
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Cantonese and Mandarin speaking skills with the ability to translate from Cantonese/Mandarin to English and vice versa.  Ability to type in these languages.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure, and to exercise tact and professionalism in switchboard and reception handling.

 

Other:
• Duties will involve light physical exertion.

HOURLY PAY:   $13.01/hr.
