POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Helping Spirit Lodge Society and subject to its policies and regulations, the office assistant will be responsible for reception duties of the Society such as greeting visitors, administrative tasks and various other activities that are instrumental in the operation of the Society. The job is subject to multiple deadlines and moderate interruptions; ability to prioritize and multitask is key.

 

REPORTS TO:        The Executive Director                               

                   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry out the purpose and objectives of the Helping Spirit Lodge Society

  • Demonstrate ability to adhere to and implement organization’s principles, policies and practices, including understanding and maintaining confidentiality
  • Be directly responsible to the Executive Director and follow detailed instructions given by other internal staff in completing tasks
  • Maintain attention to detail while balancing multiple priorities
  • Ability to organize work and carry out the duties of the position with independence
  • Maintain a courteous manner and good disposition and greet business associates and clients in a professional manner

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post Secondary Degree

 

  • Completion of Secretarial Course and Office procedures
  • A minimum of three to six months of general office experience is required, with a working 
knowledge on clerical and reception functions
  • Computer literate and experienced with typing, filing and various relevant duties
  • Knowledge of various office equipment (photo copier, postage meter, fax machine)
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal history, traditions and cultural competencies; ability to articulate history relating to Aboriginals in Canada
  • Knowledge of various Aboriginal resources
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with both Society staff and the public
