Location: Edmonton Salary: $19.64- $21.33/hour (awake). Sleep hours remuneration will be discussed at interview.

Job Purpose:

 

Youth workers are responsible to provide care, guidance and support to children and youth who reside in a group home setting.

 

We have 2 open positions at our Stepping Stones location. This is a 0.8 FTE position working hours are 10PM-9AM.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a supportive comfortable atmosphere, encouraging residents in their individuality, while complying with the policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in shift exchange
  • Assist residents (2 -24 years) in securing a full time day program, which suits their needs.
  • Transport residents to their day programs, appointments, and recreational activities
  • Supervise residents in daily routines, in accordance with assigned shift
  • Able to work at any Residential program location if/as required
  • Evaluate resident’s behavior through daily contact and monthly goal progress notes
  • Ensure logs books, reports and documentation is completed timely
  • Attend staff meetings and any other meetings or training programs as directed by Management.
  • Follow all of the Agency’s policies, and procedures, and behalf accordingly to the code of conduct, shift expectations, and job descriptions
  • Communicate with Management concerning issues with residents.
  • Administer medications to residents as required.
  • Assist with intake of new residents
  • Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, food, and personal hygiene products, and weekly shopping lists.
  • Perform related duties as outlined in the job description

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in a related field. Students currently enrolled are also encouraged to apply. Minimum of 1 year direct group care experience is required.* Equivalencies’ with extensive and relevant experience may also be considered.*

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes

  • Knowledge of standard policies and practices related to group care and the ability to effectively implement daily operations as per shift requirements.
  • Formal training in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), Suicide Intervention, Aboriginal Awareness and Cultural Diversity, Standard First Aid and Level C- CPR Note: the agency does provide for this training if needed except initial First Aid
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers license.
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record (Vulnerable sector included) and Child Welfare Check.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 1 years’ direct experience working in a group home
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions
  • Proven ability to multitask
  • Strong de-escalation skills
  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act
  • Knowledge of the Office of the Child and Youth  Advocate and their role
  • Experience in completing reports – both handwritten and electronic versions is required
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
