Child Minding Staff – Job Creation Partnership positions

**To be eligible for this position, you must be unemployed and be on a current Employment Insurance claim, or have established a claim within the last 5 years (including maternity or parental benefits).

 

Salary:   $15.85/hr   Approximately 30 hours/week

Staff:  2 Positions available

Term: May 22nd, 2017 – March 31, 2018 (48 weeks)

 

YWCA Halifax is seeking two Child Minding Staff to join an exciting new initiative on our growing Community Programs team.  Reporting to the Program Coordinator of Newcomers Connect, the child minding staff will be responsible for providing fun, educational, and safe programming for young children while their primary caregivers attend YWCA Halifax’s Newcomers Connect program for Newcomer and Refugee Women. 

The successful candidate for this role should be positive, nurturing, and well-organized, with experience working with young children. They should have an interest in advancing their knowledge through education, workshops and professional development, and a commitment to advancing the mission of YWCA Halifax and YWCA Canada.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

-Collaborating with team members to offer developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences for young children

-Creating a warm, inviting, and pleasant atmosphere for families

-Maintaining a clean and safe workplace according to provincial health and safety standards and YWCA Halifax policies and procedures

-Acting as a resource for and maintaining a professional relationship with parents, while keeping parents informed of their child’s experiences through daily contact

 

Qualifications and Experience:

-First Aid with Infant CPR level C

-Clear Criminal Records Check

-Clear Child Abuse Records Check

-Must be in good health and fit to work in a childcare setting

-Experience working with young children

-Second-language proficiency would be considered an asset
