Luminato is Toronto’s international multi-arts, multi-platform festival dedicated to performance, visual art, music, theatre, dance, and programming that cuts across traditional art form boundaries. The 2017 festival runs June 14 to 25, launching Luminato’s second decade. In its first decade, Luminato has become one of the preeminent arts festivals in North America, having commissioned close to 100 new works of art, with over 3,000 performances featuring more than 13,000 artists. 82% of participating artists were Canadian, and 18% were from over 40 countries around the world. Luminato is a charitable, not-for-profit, cultural organization.

 

Job Description

The Associate Director, Individual Giving and Foundations is responsible for supporting the VP, Development in the development and execution of the organization’s individual giving and foundation fundraising strategy.  A key member of the Development Department, this role will also work with the Marketing, Programming & Production and Special Events teams from time to time. 

 

Individual Giving

  • With the VP, Development, implement all Individual Giving activities and programs. This includes cultivation and solicitation of: major and mid-level donors and prospects
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a donor portfolio
  • Oversee donor pipeline program. Emphasis will be on securing a significant number of new gifts and gift upgrades through a strategic approach to personal cultivation and solicitation
  • Provide support to the VP Development and CEO in creating briefings, proposal materials, and other communications for major donors
  • Work as part of the overall Development team to develop and execute strategies to achieve annual departmental goals
  • Assist in team goal setting and expense management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Requires evening and weekend hours especially during peak festival period

 

Foundations

  • Build a pipeline of new foundation funding sources both national and international through effective research, cultivate new institutional partnerships and relationships, and strengthen existing relationships with current foundation funders.

 

Gala and Special Events

  • Collaborate with Special Events on the successful planning and execution of Luminato’s annual gala and other special events, including soliciting support for the event and providing practical support for the recruitment and management of the Co-Chairs and Honourary Co-Chairs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a polished manner
  • Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail
  • Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal and networking skills, with an ability to act with tact and diplomacy with external stakeholders and within an organization committed to teamwork
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • A strong interest in and knowledge of the arts
  • A strong knowledge of the Toronto philanthropic community
  • Strong leadership, motivational skills, and business acumen
  • Strong sense of commitment and accountability for the roles and responsibilities of the position
  • Knowledge of the international arts scene is advantageous, in particular international performing and multi-arts festival
