COMMUNITY SCHOOL TEAM (CST) PROGRAMMER

 

An exciting opportunity to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students after school with the
Vancouver Board of Education

 

Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to over 50,000 students from Kindergarten
to Grade 12 and over 2,000 adults in adult education programs. Serving our diverse district in 110 facility sites,
our programs and services are designed to address both complex challenges and extraordinary opportunities.

 

Job Description:
You will plan, organize and implement Out of School Time (OST) programming for secondary and elementary students in
a given Community Schools Hub which includes the high school and neighbouring elementary schools. You will provide
outstanding leadership and mentorship for a large number of program leaders and volunteers. You will recruit, train and
mentor volunteers, who are largely comprised of secondary school students. You report to and work closely with the
Community Schools Coordinator to identify needs in the Hub and respond to feedback from students, school staff,
Administrators, community members, and parents. Your excellent communication and organizational skills will help
you promote the OST programs, collect registrations, maintain program data, and assist with reporting to funders when
required.

 

The Community Schools Hubs and Out of School Time programs offered vary across the district. As a Programmer for the
hub, you will:

Plan & implement lunchtime & after school programs,Create and maintain relationships with partner organizations, Assist program staff and respond to challenging behaviours, Prepare daily snack, Collaborate with school staff & other CST Programmers, Manage operating budget, Plan & facilitate special events

 

Qualifications:
 Degree or diploma in any of the following areas: Child and Youth Care, Recreation Leadership, Human Kinetics,
Community Development, Social Work or Social Sciences, Education and/or equivalent work experience
 Minimum 1 year experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
 Current first aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain
 HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development and/or QUEST2 certification or willing to obtain
Hours:

 

The job is approximately 35 hours per week and is primarily in the afternoons – applicants must be available to work
afternoons until 6:00pm, as well as possible weekend or evening work. This position requires travel to a variety of sites
within a neighborhood on a regular basis. This position offers an hourly wage of $15.50 to $20.50 (+ 10.67% in lieu of
benefits) depending on experience.
