Job Summary:
The Therapeutic Supervised Access Worker provides supervision and monitoring for visits
between parents and their children where there are concerns for physical, psychological or
emotional safety. Visits will take place in the family home, the foster family’s home, or in a
program or community setting. Visits could be between one family or with a group of families,
if this is appropriate. The Therapeutic Supervised Access Worker will/may provide
transportation to and from a visit for children. This position is temporary 20 to 25 hours per
week. This position is temporary for 1 year and will be reevaluated prior to the end of the
year. This position may be required to work weekends and evenings as well.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
 Assess needs, past history of violence and level of vigilance required for visits.
 Schedule visits with family, foster family and select appropriate venue.
 Provide orientation to parents and their children separately.
 Establish guidelines with children and adults about limits on physical contact and
signals to be used if they are feeling uncomfortable and want the visit to end.
 Transport family members to visit site, if needed, within the guidelines of confidentiality
and prevention of possible violent situations.
 If warranted, meet parents and foster parents separately and ensure that they do not
come in contact with one another to ensure safety and confidentiality.
 Set up play space with toys and activities appropriate to the age and developmental
stage of the children.
 Remain with family for the duration of visit, monitoring all parent-child interactions for
safety and appropriateness.
 Model appropriate childcare practice with reference to play, napping, personal care, and
eating routines (when directed by Social Worker).
 Provide teaching and guidance to parents, if warranted, re: communication, appropriate
child management etc (when directed by Social Worker).
 Provide reports about supervised visits, and be prepared to testify about this in court, if
necessary.
 This position may involve flexible hours up to 25 hours (including evening, weekend and
stat. holidays) work to accommodate needs of clients.

 

Education and Qualification Requirements:
 Child and Youth Care diploma or equivalent.
 An understanding of integrated case management/wrap around service delivery
 Ability to work collaboratively with the community
 Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills


Working Conditions:
 Ability to work evenings and/or weekends is required.
 Current First Aid, Class Five Driver’s License and use of own car required.
 Clear Criminal Record Check.
