Working in North East Edmonton, the primary objective of this work is to develop an understanding of local business employment opportunities and match these requirements to local job seekers. The work will involve a community based approach working with staff from Bissell Centre and Boyle Street Community Services, relationship development with socially conscious businesses and connecting program participants to living wage job opportunities.


You will work with existing and new networks with a primary focus of developing an employer contact list by contacting or meeting with prospective employers to assess employment needs, expectations and opportunities. You will gather, analyze, organize and compile data and information on labour market trends including in-demand positions (in relevant sectors), hiring patterns, wages, and areas of employment growth.  You will maintain computer records and update a database with employer and participant information. In addition, you will market participants and assist in developing work integration plans.   


Ideal candidate qualifications include an understanding of employment resources and labour market information, familiarity with issues of poverty. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, results oriented, good time management, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.  Research skills and experience using a database are considered assets.  Education or experience in business studies, human/social services, social work or related field is preferred.  


Access to reliable transportation is considered an asset as travel is involved within five Northeast Edmonton neighbourhoods. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in North East Edmonton (postal code T5Y). This positon is based at 14027 – Victoria Trail.


This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicant requirements also include:

  • Registered as a full-time student during the academic year and returning to school on a full time basis the 2017 academic year
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee and legally entitled to work according to provincial legislation


There are two temporary full time positions. One focuses on research, the other on community engagement.   Please indicate your preference in the e-mail subject line.  Positions commence in early June for a nine week term.    Occasional evening or weekend work will be required.
