Family Guidance Program

Family Therapist

1 Year Maternity Leave Position

35 Hours/Week

 

 

Job Title:  Family Therapist   

Program Name:  Langley Family Guidance

 

JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional clinical counselling services to families referred by the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD) where there are child welfare related parent/child relationship problems.  Works with all available members of the family and/or foster family in order to achieve the individual, couple, familial and systemic goals.  The various pathologies affecting family functioning, such as physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse of the child, mental health, family violence, and drug and alcohol issues, are addressed through professional therapeutic counselling interventions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A Master Level degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or in a related field.  At least 2 years work experience in a clinical setting.  Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of government and community based programs and related provincial and community support systems.  Demonstrated skills and experience with high risk children, youth and families.  Proven ability to work effectively during crisis.  Excellent organization, time and general management skills.  Ability to work with hostile/aggressive clients.  Excellent networking skills.  Experience in trauma work an asset.

 

Criminal Records Check:  Must maintain a satisfactory criminal records check.

  • Use of personal vehicle and business insurance
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR (Child and Adult)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Anti-racism, anti-violence and cultural competency training
  • Evening work and flexible work schedule
