The Welcome Centre is a non-profit organization that initiates, organizes and launches programs, services and events for newcomers, immigrants and refugees in order to ease their settlement and blending in with the Canadian Society.


Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of Manager of the Welcome Centre and the lead of Youth Coordinator, we are looking to hire 6 Summer Youth Leaders to follow the lead of Youth Coordinators and help in running or supporting programs that engage youth ages 6-18 years of age and shall assume accountability for the results in achieving the outlined goals and objectives of those programs. This person may also support Administrative Staff in various administrative duties including data entry, reporting, etc…. This is a Seasonal position with varied hours (could be either part-time or full-time hours) beginning June 26 and ending on approximately August 26.


Youth Program Facilitation - 100%

• Run age appropriate programs, including educational activities, physical activities, games and drop in activities
• Insure a safe and fun environment for all youth
• Safeguard the confidentiality of all participants
• Take program attendance daily for programs
• Work as a team to insure that volunteers are utilized to their fullest potential during the program
• Engage youth in an environment that promotes creativity and exploration through learning
• Engage with youth to minimize behavioral issues and employ positive discipline techniques when necessary
• Any other duties the Manager or Program Coordinator deems necessary
• At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Welcome Centre Summer Program


• Experience working with youth ages 6-18 years old in a youth development setting
• The ability to create strong relationships with youth in a short period of time
• An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, and recreation.
• Strong positive disciplinary skills with youth
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to use PC computer software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop
• Ability to work in a high-paced environment with continual distractions
• Self-Starter
• Flexibility
• Strong ability to create and follow systems and procedures


• Bilingual is a bonus
• Police Check and CPR valid within the last 6 months
• Must be able to lift 15 lbs.
• Must be able to stand for at least 1 hour
• Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
