An exciting opportunity exists for a Live-in Residential Care Worker at Cadence Second-Stage Housing for Women, a program of Atira Women's Resource Society. We offer a challenging and rewarding work environment for women passionate about ending violence against women and children. Understanding the dynamics of violence against women and children and the intersectionality of oppressions within a feminist framework and being able to apply this understanding in your day-to-day practice is mandatory.

 

Qualifications:

Experience as a live-in residential care worker is preferred. Must have experience working as a front-line support worker working with women affected by violence/abuse, poverty and homelessness; must have a well-developed analysis of the impact/legacy of colonization and assimilation and the resulting impact on First Nations, Métis and Inuit women. Must be open to working with women in recovery who may also be struggling with mental & spiritual wellness; must understand and be at ease working within a harm reduction environment. Because of the demographics of Richmond, significant consideration will be given to women who meet the qualifications set out above and who are fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog or Punjabi. We are also interested in applications from women who are First Nations, Metis or Inuit.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide a safe, supportive living environment
  • Respond to women’s questions and concerns
  • Respond to emergencies and notify authorities
  • Collect rent and maintain current and complete files and keep an accurate and up-to-date rent roll
  • Keep accurate records, files, log notes and statistical information as per practice/policy
  • Light maintenance, housekeeping and building exterior cleaning
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Show units to prospective program participants
  • Restore vacant rooms to good, clean condition for new program participants, including working with the facilities manager to arrange for maintenance as required

Additional Information:

A large, self-contained studio unit forms part of this position. Rent will be equal to market rent or 30% of the successful applicant’s gross annual income, whichever is less. Education:

A certificate in a related discipline such as community support worker, live-in residential care worker or residential building management and/or relevant skill-based training is required, either through programs like those offered at the Native Education or Sprott Shaw College and/or through volunteer training\or relevant workplace experience. Formal education/credentials will count only as the equivalent combination of relevant skill-based training and work experience.

 

Additional Requisites:

  • A valid First Aid certificate is required
  • A valid Food Safe certificate is an asset
  • Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is an asset (achieved or upgraded in past 12 months)
