Yorktown Child and Family Centre is an accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre dedicated to providing effective, accessible, quality mental health treatment, prevention and outreach services to children, youth and families in the former City of York and other west end priority neighbourhoods. YCFC is uniquely connected to its sister agency – Yorktown Shelter for Women – a shelter for women and their children who are fleeing an abusive relationship – under the umbrella of Yorktown Family Services. We are committed to ensuring that all of our programs produce effective and positive outcomes for clients through evaluation, research and the incorporation of evidence-based services and practices, whenever possible.

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Service is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to strengthen and support the practice of clinical and community professionals within diverse underserved high need communities. You will champion continued excellence in service delivery and be an advocate for clients and staff. You will foster the development of professional practice standards, promote educational activities and facilitate collaboration and problem solving.





Managing Program Service Delivery and Development


  • Provides leadership, direction, supervision and acts as a resource to all clinical and community program managers and supervisors.


  • Develops clinical policy, high quality services standards, and appropriate clinical and program supervision and quality assurance processes.


  • Plans, develops, implements, oversees and evaluates existing, new or needed programming focused on outcomes.


  • Provides leadership that supports quality improvements of programs and services, team building, creativity, sound professional judgment and commitment to excellence.


  • Monitors the overall service delivery of the Centre with respect to ensuring accurate statistics are collected and sent to appropriate funders/partners. Analyzes numbers and types of clients, and emerging service patterns and others statistical data required for meaningful service planning.


  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in the fields of health promotion, prevention, family support, and clinical treatment of children, youth, and their families, and community based youth development and youth success programs.


  • Facilitates staff recruitment, hiring, placement, performance appraisal, attendance management, ongoing staff training and coaching and encourages overall staff excellence.


  • Monitors and gives direction to all teams and to walk-in and the intake processes, in collaboration with supervisors and staff, and keeps informed about community need through requests for service.


  •  Together with program managers, and/or in conjunction with contracted research expertise, initiates data analysis, evaluation and research involving clinical and community programs and ensures increased staff capacity to implement best practices based on research and development.


  • Participates in budget development and management and monitors data related to utilization, quality, workload and staff and client safety.


  • Promotes and maintains effective, collaborative partnerships and relationships, with funders, other community organizations and institutions.


  • Participates in knowledge transfer activities – presenting at conferences, and workshops in conjunction with Executive Director and others.



Policy Development


  • Ensure that clinical and community policies are developed and updated as required to meet accreditation and legal standards.


  • Is the internal leader for the Accreditation process to ensure that Yorktown successfully completes Accreditation every 4-5 years as required.


  • As a key member of the Senior Management Team, ensures the operational implementation of, monitoring and reporting on the organizational strategic directions.


Agency Planning and Representation


  • Assists the Executive Director and senior management in program development and planning.


  • Acts on behalf of the Executive Director in his/her absence and represents Yorktown Child and Family Centre at various meetings/committees in the community.


Other Duties


  • Assists with service planning and reporting to funders and donors.


  • Provides staff support to Board and Committees as required.


  • Participates on the Labour Management and Negotiating Committee for Yorktown Child and Family Centre.


  • Other duties as required.




  • Graduate of an accredited Master’s program in Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent.


  • 5-7 years of clinical and youth programming experience in Child and Youth Mental Health or related sector, preferably in a unionized setting.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience overseeing managers preferably in a unionized setting.


  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the issues impacting mental health needs of children, youth and families.


  • Clinical skills in treatment models that support competency-based, goal-focused practice with children, youth and families.


  • Knowledge and experience in community based programs addressing the social determinants of mental health


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience managing programs, monitoring targets and budgets.
  • Experience completing quarterly and/or annual funder reports.
  • Experience with development activities, such as, submission of funding proposals, etc.


  • Knowledge of ministry reporting requirement and applicable legislation would be an asset.
