Raising the Roof provides national leadership on long-term solutions to homelessness through partnership and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, investment in local communities, and public education. We work towards a day when all Canadians have access to a safe and stable home, with the support to achieve their potential.


Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Development Coordinator supports the organization’s strategic approach to fundraising, which may include some coordination of the national campaign, prospect identification, donor stewardship, and events.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Toque Campaign

  • Communicates between Partner Agencies and Raising the Roof.
  • Assists with the application process, toque orders, materials of support and communication.
  • Supports Partner Agencies to help maximize sales across Canada.
  • Assists with the planning and execution of Toque Tuesday Toronto.


  • Helps to coordinate the organization’s events from small donor receptions to larger, signature fundraising events in Toronto.
  • Actively promotes and engages opportunities for third party events.
  • Provides support to third party events that align with the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Prospect Identification

  • Identifies new potential sources of funding appropriate for Raising the Roof.
  • Ensures appropriate research is undertaken for a good fit between corporations or other potential donors and Raising the Roof’s philosophy and strategy.


  • Prepares first drafts of proposals for review.
  • Responds to gifts received with stewardship letters and/or calls.
  • Utilizes the database to track gifts received and other constituents.



  • Post-secondary education and experience in fundraising in a community not-for-profit organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including presentation and public speaking skills. Fluency in French an asset.
  • Experience in developing funding proposals and managing accountability to funders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gift processing software and donor database systems.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and other graphic design programs a definite asset.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively with demonstrated problem solving ability.


Terms of Employment

  • This is a full time, one-year contract (until July, 2018), with possibility of renewal.


Working Conditions

  • Office environment
  • Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Time outside of regular work hours will be required on occasion to attend events, meetings, etc.
