Community Living Support Worker for Individual Client Contract

Permanent – Part-Time

 

Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual who would like to join our Community Living team. The Community Living Support Worker will assist us in delivering a broad range of programming and supports to adults with diverse abilities, across an array of social, educational, and recreational settings.  We aim to foster community inclusion by promoting independence, self-determination, purpose and belonging. The Community Living Support Worker for Individual Client Contract will be specifically responsible to assist one individual access recreational, educational, and social programming within the Discovery program and the community at large.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with a very active young man, supporting his participation in the community and with his peers.
  • Establish individual needs and goals with program participants, their support network, and the program staff, which are appropriate to the person’s abilities and desires;
  • Offer leisure, social, recreational and skill building/learning opportunities that are appropriate, creative and enjoyable for the participants;
  • Identify and access community resources that meet individual needs, including volunteer options;
  • Ensure participants’ safety and well-being at all times, meeting health and safety standards;
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with the philosophies of ACS and Community Living BC;
  • Maintain client progress notes and documentation, as required;
  • Provide some personal care to participants, and
  • Complete additional duties as designated by the team or assigned by Manager of Community Living.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Must exhibit personal maturity, self-motivation and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Related education (e.g. Community Living Support Certificate, Social Work Diploma etc.);
  • Minimum of one-year work experience supporting people with developmental disabilities;
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence, a vehicle fit for driving clients, a clean Drivers’ Abstract, and a current Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR/AED;
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and responsive decision making skills;
  • The ability to work independently within a collaborative team setting, and
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and activities.

 

POSITION PARTICULARS / WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a permanent position of 6 hours / week. Days of work are Thursdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Applicants must be prepared to work a variety of staff/client ratios (e.g. 1-1 up to 1-6), as needed, for overall program functioning. Opportunities may exist to work additional casual hours within the Community Living Services team. Satisfactory Criminal Records Check must be completed and maintained for this position.
