Scouts Canada is hiring a Sr. Accountant to join our Finance team at our National Office in Ottawa!

Reporting to the Controller, and as a critical member of the Finance Team, you will be responsible for the preparation and review of financial statements and reports. 

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Management of the month end close and financial reporting requirements including the preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements, including budget comparisons and forecasts as well as the completion of various other financial reports to management in accordance with deadlines, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Administration of the accounting program include maintenance of the chart of accounts, designing of financial reports and control of user access
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, analysis of revenue and expenses accounts and maintenance of working paper files
  • Management of cashflow, accounting requirements for investments and various internal and restricted funds
  • Preparation of year-end financial statements, coordination and leading the annual audit, completion of annual working paper files and year-end schedules, management of auditor requests for information and verification of audited financial statements
  • Preparation of templates for annual departmental budgets, preparation of annual salary budget, amalgamation of budgets and integration with the accounting program
  • Providing guidance and direction to the finance team, managers, employees and volunteers as required
  • Reviewing processes and procedures for efficiency gains and continuous improvement

Education, Experience & Skills 

  • Achieved or completing professional designation (CPA) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a senior finance role; experience in a not-for-profit environment an asset
  • Demonstrated fluency with Great Plains accounting software
  • Up to date knowledge of Canadian charitable accounting standards and CRA guidelines for registered charities
  • Advanced Excel skills
