Community Living British Columbia [CLBC] is a crown corporation responsible for arranging support and services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. CLBC staff strives to adhere to the corporate vision ‘Good lives in welcoming communities’.


The Provincial Assessment Centre (PAC) is the designated tertiary care mental health service for individuals aged 14 years and older who have a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness or behavioural concern.  PAC is the only center in BC that provides specialized inpatient assessment and treatment for dually diagnosed individuals.  The nurses at PAC are part of the multi disciplinary team that provides a comprehensive 90 day assessment or a 30 day stabilization and reintegration into community.


The Role:

  • Under the direction of a Nurse 5, the Nurse 4 provides psychiatric and physical care within a Provincial Mental Health facility.
  • Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to plan, develop and implement group and individual goals for individuals admitted to the Provincial Assessment Centre. 

  • Incorporates individual assessment, observation and plans into day-to-day care and provides nursing services, i.e. dispenses medication, completes prescribed treatments etc.

  •  This role utilizes the skills of non-violent crisis intervention, restrains and secludes aggressive or violent individuals if necessary.

  • The Provincial Assessment Centre employs positive behavioural support strategies when working clients.  However, to prevent client’s injuring themselves it can be necessary to physically separate and contain aggressive individuals.  The Mental Health Worker must have knowledge, experience, and capacity to physically restrain aggressive, ambulatory male and female adults

  • This role requires shift work



  • Current registration with CRPNBC and/or CRNBC. 

  • Good working knowledge of progressive verbal and/or physical intervention techniques and ability to interact with unpredictable, aggressive and/or acting out behaviors. 

  • First aid and CPR level C is required.
