The HR Business Partner is the sole practitioner responsible for the day-to-day operations of the HR function at the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA). A true generalist, the role assumes a broad scope of responsibilities – from staffing, training and coaching, to organisational planning and employee engagement. The role is the primary contact for staff and managers, and closely partners with senior management as a part of the Operations Leadership Team.



Key initiatives are:

  1. The development and implementation of an OPA Mental Health in the Workplace Program to benefit all staff.
  2. Leadership Training – sourcing and organising an in-house training session(s) for People Managers.
  3. A complete review, needs assessment and redesign of the Employee Performance Appraisal tool.
  4. Responsible for the annual employee engagement survey. 

Continue to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of all HR matters.

  • Employee Relations: Provide advice and support on all employee relations matters, with a focus on coaching staff and managers at all levels. 
  • Provide insight to all strategic and organisational planning related to staffing, organisational structure and workforce planning.
  • Lead the recruitment and selection process from start to finish.
  • Responsible for compensation analysis and making recommendations for changes based on market data. Participation in external salary reviews as needed.
  • Co-Chair of the Health, Safety & Wellness Committee and OPA’s Culture Committee.
  • Provide HR project support to the CEO as needed. 
  • Keep up to date with current HR best practices and legislation. 


  • CHRL required
  • 6+ years progressive generalist experience in a human resources role
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector and in a small organisation a strong asset.

We are looking for a candidate that has:

  • Sound knowledge of human resources principles, industry practices, and employment, human rights, and occupational health & safety laws /regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to build trust and relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent coaching, conflict resolution, decision making, and influencing skills.
  • The ability to work independently and operate effectively at both a strategic and tactical level.
  • Exceptionally organised with strong project management skills.
  • The ability to balance the day-to-day administrative tasks and employee support with the ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and a willingness to learn and champion new technologies.
  • Consistently demonstrates a professional and positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of the Pharmacy / Healthcare industry an asset.
