The Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Senior Development Officer. This position will be responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining the philanthropic and sponsorship activities of the Alumni and Development office; including the cultivation and stewardship of relationships with community stakeholders, alumni and other university partners.

The Ideal Candidate

It is the key responsibility of the Senior Development Officer to establish, build, and maintain relationships with a focus on achieving university, and departmental goals and objectives.


Highly organized and able to manage and prioritize a caseload to meet department objectives, the ideal candidate is mature and able to handle situations with exceptional tact and diplomacy. The Senior Development Officer is polished and confident with the ability to work successfully in a diverse stakeholder environment. Politically astute and possessing a good knowledge of the Edmonton business community, the ideal candidate will successfully identify opportunities that meet the needs of donors and the university.


The Senior Development Officer handles prospective donors through the entire pipeline from identification through to stewardship while tracking their moves management through the Raiser’s Edge database. The candidate possesses meticulous attention to detail while balancing a diverse portfolio of donors.



A post-secondary degree along with a minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in major or planned gift fundraising is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered. Membership in good standing with a professional organization/association such as the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, Association of Fundraising Professionals or Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education would be considered an asset.
