Summary Statement

The Before and After School Worker, Team Lead will work with a diverse group of children to provide a safe, nurturing and creative environment for children to play, learn and thrive.  The Team Lead is the on-site supervisor and main contact for the program. This person will create opportunities for social and emotional development, community-building and homework support through following and facilitating an age-appropriate lesson plan and have the ability to adapt the plan as needed to meet the needs of the group.  In all activities the worker strives to develop assets in participants.  We currently have two positions open. We have one at a school in West Vancouver and one in Richmond.

Education and Knowledge

·         Child and Youth Care Diploma or related Human/Social Service area

·         First Aid Certification

·         Food Safe Certification

Training and Experience

·         Two years experience working with school aged children

·         Must be at least 19 years of age

·         Up to date vaccinations, doctor’s note and criminal record check.

General Skills and Abilities

·         Well developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, oral and written communication skills;

·         Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others;

·         Good organization, time and general management skills;

·         Experience facilitating groups with children;

·         Ability to follow, facilitate and adapt lesson plans;

·         Working knowledge of age-appropriate activities and resources;

·         Understanding of asset building; and

·         Ability to work as part of an effective team with other program staff and community professionals.

A.     Individual Group and Client Support

·         Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates group-based recreational, social and educational activities.

·         Welcomes new children and their families to the program. Explains and interprets the philosophy, goals and objectives of the program to families and answers questions. Ensures enrolment information is in order including medical and emergency information, dietary instructions and parental consent forms in compliance with statutory requirements such as licensing.  Ensures safety of participants.

·         Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.  Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines

·         Encourages and facilitates participation in activities; provides guidance and instruction. Monitors and manages individual and group behaviour.

·         Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques. Develops daily program schedules that include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual and group activities.

·         Prepares snacks according to food safe standards

B.      Community Liaison

·         Recruits, selects, dismisses, orients, trains, monitors and provides support to program volunteers.

·         Maintains awareness of community resources and supports.

·         Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.

C.      Administrative/Miscellaneous

·         Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

·         Makes recommendation to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation and program evaluation.

·         Supports supervisor in development of reports and statistics to RYSA and funders as required.

·         Purchases snack and program supplies from petty cash fund, recording and submitting receipts; maintains and orders supplies within a prescribed budget.

·         Seeks supervision from supervisor on regular basis

·         Subscribes and adheres to ethical principles of service as outlined in the code of ethics of the Child and Youth Care Association of BC

·         Aware of and follows licensing regulations

·         Performs other related duties as required
