Title: Residence Manager

 

Reports To: Executive Director

 

Terms: Full-time one year contract with possiblilty of renewal

 

Reception House Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization that enables the successful resettlement of newly-arrived refugees by providing temporary accommodation and orientation, assistance securing permanent housing, ongoing settlement and intensive case management services. We are seeking a Residence Manager, who is charged with managing the day-to-day maintenance of Reception House temporary residence. The Residence Manager will also be required to provide support to a secondary site, Kiwanis House. The Residence Manager ensures the residence is maintained and supports staff scheduling to keep the 24/7, 365 days per year operation running smoothly. A background check will be required. Hourly pay will be based on qualifications.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with on-site staff to coordinate regular house meetings for clients to assign chores, identify needs and concerns, clarify rules and policy, provide information, referrals, and peer support
  • Diligently complete paperwork, enter data, and complie reports on services provided
  • Monitor processing new arrivals to temporary residence in compliance with Program policies and procedures
  • Organize the maintenance and upkeep of shelter grounds including snow removal, weed removal, grass and flower bed maintenance
  • Request needed purchase orders and repair requests for house and grounds
  • Oversee the acquisition and distribution of in-kind donations, providing documentation to the Executive Director
  • Schedule workers and volunteers according to residence needs and client numbers
  • Assist with and participate in agency events, as needed
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Understand and be committed to the Reception House mission (receptionhouse.ca)
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the challenges and trauma faced by people who are refugees
  • Understand and adhere to the confidentiality of clients and the organization
  • Ability to adhere to health and safety protocols as outlined in policy manual and ensure staff are trained in the necessary crisis, fire, safety and all emergency procedures
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain records and appropriately document all crisis and incidents reports
  • Flexibility to take on-call shifts as assigned
  • Valid Driver’s License and experience driving a van
  • Able to work flexible hours

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Degree preferred or high school diploma plus relevant training and experience
  • Experience as a property manager, caretaker or equivalent
  • Experience training, supervising and evaluating staff and/or volunteer teams
  • Experience working with people with varied abilities, racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Experience managing stressful crisis situations
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team
