Wood’s Homes is a multi-service, non-profit children’s mental health centre based in Calgary. Our over 550 staff and volunteers help provide 35 programs and services for 28,000 children and their families each year in Calgary, Lethbridge, Canmore, Strathmore, Fort McMurray and Fort Smith, N.W.T.

We are currently seeking a Lead Hand to work in the Facilities Department.

 

The Lead Hand is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and delegation of work related to the care and upkeep of Wood’s Homes equipment/property, vehicles and facilities. This position has supervisory responsibility within the maintenance team in addition to hands on work.

 

This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for organizing and managing a work crew and responsible for ongoing work performance, project/job evaluation, onsite supervision of Facilities staff. Must be able to prioritize with particular attention to health and safety issues.
  • Assists with preparing maintenance and site development budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • In conjunction with the Manager, develops and updates five-year Facilities Maintenance Plan.
  • Attends Facilities Committee meetings and others as warranted.
  • Able to arrange for any servicing and maintenance repair or replacement of buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds.
  • In collaboration with Dispatcher will liaise with agency supervisory staff to establish Maintenance priorities and ensure that adequate standards are maintained.
  • Provides emergency maintenance assistance and ongoing advice to programs with regard to care of buildings, grounds and vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as required or as delegated by the Manager of Facilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • Minimum high school diploma and Journeyman trade qualification, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in maintenance or trade field and 2 years’ experience in a supervisory position
  • Computer literate in Word and Excel
  • Good problem solving and organizational skills
  • Personal suitability is important.
