POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a multi-purpose, multi-program facility that functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable provider of services for the Deaf. The organization exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve.

 

Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, this position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, monitoring and counselling of clients throughout their treatment program.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS

  • Ensure supportive, safe, and predictable environment through the establishment of routines, limits and daily living skills.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of assessments, goals, and treatment plans establishing norms and structure that provide for a safe and growth-focused environment.
  • Counsels youth in individual and group settings, including therapy sessions, life skills, social skills and specific issues as they arise.
  • Responds to crisis situations utilizing crisis intervention and SMG techniques.
  • Participate with Individuals in special program events such as trips.
  • Co-facilitates and supports skills group programming using pre-developed curricula (i.e. DBT informed group, social skills group, emotional management group, relapse prevention group)
  • Participate in treatment planning, service reviews, plan of care, program planning and evaluation meetings.
  • Coordinate services with other community programs
  • Provide effective counselling and behaviour management to Individuals
  • Effectively manage caseload requirements and agency reporting expectations
  • Physical activities including, but not limited to, lifting, bending and prolonged standing
  • Participate fully in activities that are both residential and community based
  • Driving individuals to appointments and activities in the community
  • Rotational schedule that includes weekends

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in Child and Youth work, Social Service Worker or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience plus minimum of two (2) years working in a clinical setting with individuals with mental health needs, challenging behaviours and/or dual diagnosis
  • Member or eligible to become a member of a recognized college in the field
  • Knowledge and experience working within the deaf community and fluency in ASL
  • French language/LSQ an asset
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities, flexibility and adaptation to change
  • Strong written skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with youth, staff, and colleagues, and cross sector service partners
  • Possess sound judgement, creativity, initiative and integrity, and ability to set consistent and appropriate limits
  • Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharevision)
  • Committed to helping youth within an Interdisciplinary Team using individual and group processes
  • Mature and professional judgement in conflictual and high intensity situations
  • Current Quality Services Measures, Safe Management, Medication Administration, and WHMIS certification
  • Full G Ontario Driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to vehicle
