WE is seeking a dynamic and committed Amazon Farm Manager to join our Ecuador Management team. As the Amazon Farm Manager, you would be a leader on our team in the design, construction and day-to-day operation of a demonstration farm in the Amazon region of Ecuador. The farm will serve as an example of cutting edge agricultural practices, with a specific focus on the production and processing of cacao. The Amazon Farm Manager will lead of team of farm workers to ensure the successful operation of the farm, with special emphasis on producing the highest quality cacao and agricultural products that will greatly improve the income and/or nutrition of the surrounding Kichwa communities. In addition to the operation of the farm, the Farm Manager will head a team of agricultural outreach workers who will provide learning opportunities for local farms, and also provide educational programming to international visitors.

Your Impacts:

  • Guide the development of a 50-hectare agriculture & cacao demonstration site to be located in the Amazon region of Ecuador, using multiple agricultural models
  • Design creative and innovative training programs in sustainable farming practices in the Amazon, with a special focus on cacao production
  • Advise the Country Director, Amazon Associate Director and other team members in regards to trends in agricultural practices and government initiatives
  • Organize and manage, in detail, the daily operations of the demonstration farm, along with a staff of farm employees and outreach coordinators
  • Collaborate with our Trips team in their creation of a highly interactive and educational farm-visit program, including half-day, full-day and multi-day programming for donors and volunteers, with a focus on cacao and chocolate production
  • Charismatically host groups of volunteers and donors at the farm in order to share the farm-visit programming, with a special emphasis on helping them connect to our cacao operations and the WE Chocolate product line
  • Intelligently and economically create and manage an overall farm budget including management of the farm business
  • An extra emphasis in helping to determine the overall direction of WE’s agricultural programming across our Ecuador operations in the Oriente, Sierra and Coast
  • Develop reports for donors and other stakeholders, both within and from outside the organization
  • Build strong ties between WE and the Ministry of Agriculture, along with other government partners
  • Manage a petty cash fund for our Farm projects & staff


What you bring:

  • Fluency in Spanish and English, written and spoken
  • 3+ years of project & team management experience
  • A degree in Ingeniería agrónoma and 5+ years of professional experience in an agriculture-related field – agronomy, horticulture, agricultural sciences etc
  • Specialized knowledge in the production, both pre-and post-harvest, of cacao
  • Ability to be based out of our staff accommodations located in the Amazon
  • High-level functionality in Microsoft Office
  • A passion for creating change for rural indigenous communities
  • Driver’s license and able to drive standard vehicle. 
  • Planning and budget control
