POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Project Coordinator - Health and Safety Program will be responsible for the build and implementation of the Health & Safety program in preparation for the Partners in Injury Reduction’s COR certification audit. This project will involve developing, implementing, and promoting safety programs throughout the organization.

 

Prepare The Mustard Seed for the Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit, which includes revisions to health and safety manuals, program and procedure details and policies as required.

 

Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure health and safety concerns are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the project plan for the Health and Safety program implementation plan.
  • Work closely with leaders throughout the organization to educate, collaborate, encourage and influence in order for the leadership throughout the Mustard Seed to accept and support a robust H&S program.
  • Work with the Joint Health & Safety Committee to guide them in delivering on all legislative requirements.
  • Participate with the JHSC, lead by example, and use every opportunity to educate other committee members on investigations, incident reporting, tracking statistics and trend analysis.
  • Review and approve JHSC meeting minutes and agendas.
  • Travel to other locations throughout Alberta conducting training for staff and leaders, conducting inspections and investigations or consulting with leaders to prepare them for performing their respective Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Human Resources:
    • Develop, manage and deliver safety training programs with up-to-date legislations.
    • Develop and implement the Health and Safety Management System.
    • Develop an overarching Emergency Response Plan.
  • Conduct work site incident investigations and workplace hazard assessments and provide recommendations to reduce / eliminate hazards.
  • Set up the process and system for incident tracking, recording and reporting of accident and incident data (e.g. total reportable injury rate, lost time injury rate, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree, diploma or certificate program from a post-secondary and accredited institution would be an asset.
  • A professional designation such as: PMP, Prosci, CRSP, CSHO or CHSC) would be an asset.
  • Minimum of three years of progressive professional experience is required.
  • Prior experience driving change management and managing projects is highly desired. Previous experience with developing a Health & Safety Management System would be an asset.
  • Experience developing training materials, tools and templates for organizational use is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships throughout the organization, gain trust, have influence on organizational behaviours and culture are essential to the success of this project.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the Alberta OH&S Act and Regulations.
  • Self-motivated team player, enthusiastic about health and safety.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, including public speaking and technical writing is essential.
  • Proficient computer skills and thorough understanding of Microsoft office suite.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This is a temporary 5-month position

  • Mental effort: moderate, periods of high volume workload
  • Fast paced and demanding work environment
  • Occasional travel throughout Calgary and to our Red Deer and Edmonton locations will be required.
  • Employment Security Check is required

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
