The Position:

Title: Parenting Education Coach                                

Job Type: Full-time, one year maternity leave starting September 18th

 

Catholic Family Service is seeking a for a passionate individual with senior level skills to provide information related to parenting practices and child development to young parents and children involved in the programming at Louise Dean Centre. The Parent Educator reports to the Supervisor of the Counselling and Social Support Services at Catholic Family Service - Louise Dean Centre.  This position requires a self-starter, and a mature and energetic individual to create and implement programs that focus on the unique needs of young parents and their children.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying the strengths and service needs of young parents and children within the community.
  • Providing need assessments, developmental screenings, referrals and linkages to community resources
  • Providing home-based family support using a strength based approach with families in setting goals and achieving desired outcomes
  • Attending regular supervision and team meetings’
  • Attending relevant training and professional development
  • Maintaining case notes, pre and post-test, files to agency standards
  • Actively participating as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Willingness to do what needs to be done

 

Qualifications Required:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Passion about Catholic Family Service Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Principles
  • Child development – ages and stages
  • Attachment based parenting strategies
  • Trauma informed practice
  • Knowledge of adolescent development
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services
  • Knowledge and experience with In-Home visitation is an asset
  • Parenting Program (Parent as Teacher, Nurturing Parenting, Triple P Parenting) certification is an asset
