Location: langley Salary: Hourly rate $ 17.47 to 20.34 depending on qualifications and experience

Provides direct support and care to children ages 0-6 and their caregivers in a play-based, developmentally appropriate and responsive early learning environment. This position requires an individual with strong facilitative skills, exceptional working understanding of healthy child development and the ability to communicate effectively and proactively with parents and caregivers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizes, implements, and posts monthly plans of developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for the children. Develops daily program schedules that include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual/group activities. Coordinates and schedules guest speakers which meet the educational, health and safety components of the program.
Utilizes teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques.
Provide parents and caregivers with training and support to do arts and crafts, reading, storytelling, singing, games, outdoor play and any activities which will benefit the children in their growth and development and social skills. Parents are responsible for supervising their children while the ECE facilitates and supervises the children’s play.
Support children and their parents during every day life occurrences regarding developmental ages and stages and early childhood education.
Supports parents during crises oriented occurrences by referral to Program Supervisor.
Responsible for providing resource materials and information on other family based community programs, resources, and services providers.
Creates and welcoming and inclusive environment.
Administers first aid in accordance with agency policy. Parents will attend to the children’s physical needs including diapering, toileting, distributing snack foods, and any necessary medication requirements.
Ensures a healthy, safe environment. Identifies and removes potential health hazards. Reports all incidents of suspected child abuse to the supervisor and follows organizational procedures and governmental legislation.
Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
Represents the agency at community events as required.
Performs other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

 Early Childhood Educator Certificate or Diploma.
 A Current BC ECE Licence to Practice.
 First Aid certificate, including CPR for adults and children.
 FoodSafe Training.
 Special Needs or Infant Toddler / Under Three Certificate an asset.
 Strong knowledge and awareness of family and parenting issues/needs, age-appropriate programming and developmental needs of children.
 Three years’ experience within an Early Childhood environment. Multicultural experience working within an Early Childhood environment is an asset.

 Demonstrated ability to plan age appropriate programs and activities.
 Demonstrated ability to provide a safe and positive disciplined environment to encourage optimal development.
 Excellent understanding of 0-6 developmental needs.
 Excellent organizational, time and general management skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 Flexibility to work in an often changing Family Resource Environment to meet program and client needs as identified and directed by Program Supervisor.

Additional Information:
 Criminal Record Check required.
 Union Membership required (CUPE).
 This position is open to male and female applicants.
 Valid Driver’s Licence and use of personal vehicle may be required for work.
 Mileage is paid where driving for work performed, or between assigned locations, is required. Mileage is not paid for to and from work site for start and end of shift purposes. Work location may vary depending on the needs of the program.
