Position Overview:

The Vancouver School Board’s Templeton Community Schools Team is currently seeking a part-time Program Leader to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students during out of school time in schools located in Hastings-Sunrise. Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to over 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and over 2,000 adults in adult education programs. Serving our diverse district in 110 facility sites, our programs and services are designed to address both complex challenges and extraordinary opportunities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the overall implementation of Templeton Community Programs during after school period (and possibly lunch)
  • Support the work of, and collaborate with, the CST Coordinator, Programmers and other Program Leaders to ensure smooth implementation and operations
  • Prepare program supplies and materials and ensure they are available for student volunteer leaders for their weekly programs
  • Supervise and mentor Youth Leaders and children registered in out of school time programs
  • Provide on-site supervision and ensure programming is operating at a high quality standard (i.e., safe, engaging and inclusive)
  • Participate in the following (1 x per term): creation and distribution of program brochures, in-school promotions, and in-school registrations

 

Qualifications:

  • Secondary education, preferably with experience volunteering in the Hastings-Sunrise community.
  • Experience working with school-aged children (6-12 yrs) and high school students
  • Strong organizational, leadership and group management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and multitask
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of fostering resiliency in children and youth
  • HIVE FIVE certification or willingness to obtain
  • First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete and pass a criminal record check (cost $28)

 

Hours:

The role is active for the 2017-18 school year and will be 4 – 10 hours per week depending on availability and experience.
